There is little difference in the outcome of a body kit installed for street use and a body kit installed for use show (less than 1 / 4 inches difference). In a previous article, "Body Kits – Right Scores Major Points install style, gave us instructions on installing the body kit. These instructions will give you a good factory, looking finished product. If you are interested in show quality, perfect finish, these are the instructions for you!
Let us assume that the body kit has already been sanded and ready for paint. Now, go to custom fit our body kit aftermarket to the vehicle using a technique called "bedding." To do this, we apply the filler parts to install and use the body to fill grouting. Start by placing some tape over the area where he meets the car body kit. Now sand or grind the edge of the body kit for a rough surface. Apply a good layer of body filler to the body kit with a quick setting body stuffing mix. This is simply a mixture of putty with a catalyst high filling ratio, and color depending on the catalyst (usually blue or red), will be a dark red or dark blue. You want to question a few minutes, so once the putty is added the body kit, get it in place with speed and accuracy. Place the kit's body to its final position and to sustain safely a few minutes. It may be wise to have some help with this. Once the filling is set and hardened, remove it from the car. Now check if the deficit is completely filled in. If not, repeat the process until you are satisfied with the result. Then, the soft sand body kit of a mixture of putty in the kit body. Once sanded, test fit again. You may find you want to retouch any spots, and if so, add a thin layer of adhesive, and repeated the process again. Resand and try again.
Now that is perfect, remove the tape from the car. Drill pilot holes for rivets (they tend to break off and do not recommend on the screws) and secure in place with rivets. Once secured, the car is ready to be painted, and have a perfect fit, show quality aftermarket Installation of the body kit.
Be careful. This is a time consuming endeavor, and should only be performed by a qualified technician. Still recommend a body shop install these body kits, but if you have the time and patience to do it right, go ahead!
